Let your Child Talk

Conversations and Interactions lead to Language and Vocabulary Development in Children.

Read below How as a Parent you can give your child the Opportunity to Converse and the Space to Express his Feelings and Views.

1. Responding to a child’s looks, gestures, reaches, sounds and facial expression is also a start to a conversation with the adult for a child.

2. Encourage  your  child to initiate conversation. This can be done if you stop talking yourself. Pause when the child is expressing or talking.

3. Encourage your child to continue with the conversation. Testing the child or always expecting him to give the correct answer as per your thinking will be discouraging for your  child.

4. Too many difficult questions on any related topic lead to Conversation Failures and Stoppers between the Child and Adult.

5. Adult Monolouging – A one sided conversation such as Reading a Story Book or Reading the Newspaper Headlines without the child’s participation is less likely to contribute to Language Learning for the Child.

6. Story Time should be Interactive. Let the book be a medium to talk about the pictures and the theme. Let your child think of a different end to the story. Discuss the characters and their roles with your child. This will lead to more interactive story time and initiate Language Learning in Children.

7. Television Viewing has very little effect on Language Development if whatever the child has watched is not comprehended.

Dear Readers. Just one sided commentary is not enough. Back and Forth Conversation contributes the most to a child’s future language score.
